RSU13 Adult and Community Education
Maine Adult Education Program
June 2019 —
Arts in Action partnered with The Center for Maine Contemporary Art to complete a mural with the NOVA program this spring. ArtLab's Lead Educator and local mural artist, Alexis Iammarino, collaborated with the students during and after-school on the project. The mural can be viewed in the halls of the former South School on Broadway.
Arts in Action students have been working with the Rockland Transfer Station since 2017 to design the concept, colors, and to create the original artwork for the new mural that was installed this spring. The project is in collaboration with the Public Service Department Director, Dave St. Laurent; and Katrina Venhuizen, Environment Educator at EcoMaine.
Young Artist, Laura Boutin, enrolled in the Arts@Work Studio and Mentorship Program, created this beautiful piece by incorporating lots of texture using a series of palette knives and her hands to manipulate the paint gesturally and expressively to resemble crashing waves.
Some of our art programs will be partnered with the 21st Century after-school programs this fall. Look for registrations in announcements from your school, or check out the online class registration at www.rsu13.maineadulted.org for a complete listing of Arts in Action, Thomaston Grammar Art Club, and Arts@Work programs.
Art Club at TGS offered many fun and creative projects using different mediums throughout the year. Pictured here is Teaching Artist, Susan Beebe, assisting Rachel Kinney with building her paper-mache mask.
Arts in Action partnered with other community groups to host the
Summer Solstice CELEBRATE OUR YOUTH activities. Shown here are some of the painters of a donated upright piano that was delivered to Main St. for the Solstice event through an organized effort by Alexis Iammarino, Dave St. Laurent from Rockland Public Works, and local artist and musician, Nate Davis. The piano is currently installed in the small gazebo at the park above the Buoy Park near to the Rockland Police Station to be enjoyed by the public.
