Several Arts in Action workshops are now under way at RSU 13 schools. The after-school arts programs are offered by RSU 13 Adult and Community Education to create opportunities for youth to share their talents.

Arts with Heart, a program for students in grades 6 through 8, teaches mural design and painting techniques. Mural project partners include the Rockland Transfer Station and The Landing Place. The year-long program focuses on collaborative mural work and creating one-of-a-kind beautification pieces while creating opportunities to combine fine arts education with community arts projects. Arts with Heart is hosted by the Flanagan Community Building/YMCA.

Arts @ Work, a year-long mentorship program for students in grades 9 through 12, aims to deepen artistic learning, enhance student portfolios, and introduce students to community studio arts and arts administration. The mentorship program is hosted by the Center for Maine Contemporary Art’s ArtLab.

Art Club, a program for students in grades 4 and 5, encourages students to use a variety of art topics to create their own projects. Each week, new techniques and lessons on using new materials are introduced.

Instructor Alexis Iammarino leads the Arts with Heart and Arts @ Work programs; Art Club is hosted by Thomaston Grammar School and led by Cynthia McGuirl.
