Event to Unveil Latest Rockland Community Mural

Arts in Action gets a helping hand from the City of Rockland to install mural pieces at the Transfer Station.

Rockland—Arts in Action, a program of RSU13 Adult & Community Education, invites community members to join students in the unveiling of their latest mural as part of the Rockland Transfer Station and EcoMaine event to kick off single-sort recycling.  The mural will be presented by lead student artists and Arts in Action Mural Director, Alexis Iammarino, on Saturday, June 8th at 10am at the Rockland Transfer Station. The kick-off event will run from 8am to 4pm.

Students have been working on this mural in the after-school arts program since 2017 to design the concept and color, and to create the original artwork.  They were also on-hand to help prep and paint the transfer station building to prepare for the mural installation this spring. This project is in collaboration with the Public Service Department Director, Dave St. Laurent; and Katrina Venhuizen, Environment Educator at EcoMaine.

Arts in Action’s Community Mural after-school program series focuses on collaborative mural work and creating one-of-a-kind beautification pieces while also creating opportunities for young artists to showcase and share their talents in actionable ways by coupling fine arts education with community arts projects.  This program is hosted by the Flanagan Community Building/YMCA and run by instructor Alexis Iammarino.

Arts in Action is a program of RSU13 Adult & Community Education and is supported through funding from the ANONIMO Foundation. For more information on ways to be involved email rasaartsinaction@gmail.com.

Mural components aim to educate the community on recycling while beautifying the Transfer Station.
